The name Wyncantores originates from the old spelling of
Wincanton and cantores meaning "singers"

Wyncantores is a Chamber Choir that formed in 1970 as an informal Madrigal Group.Since that time they have grown in size to about 25 singers. While their open-air concerts of Madrigals and Part Songs at Stourhead and Kingston Lacey remain a regular and popular feature of their calendar they also give concerts throughout the year in local Churches to support charitable fund-raising events. They have also supported other local performances including Menotti`s "Amahl and the Night Visitors",Britten`s "St.Nicholas" and Orff`s "Carmina Burana".

The Choir also organises Study Weekends to which a visiting conductor is invited to take part.These usually take place during the first weekend in September and some of the Conductors who have already taken part are Geoffrey Mitchell,David Laurence and Stephen Wilkinson.
